After years of continued growth, we are ready to hire a “Jack/Jill of all trades” to manage bookkeeping, payroll (multi-state) and compliance, review/refine our internal processes, and operate as the backbone of our small company.

Responsibilities include:

  • Bringing all accounting functions in-house including payroll (ADP), billing (QuickBooks), monthly reconciliation, A/R maintenance, budgeting, issuing 1099’s, and ad hoc reporting
  • Approving timesheets, running biweekly payroll, producing and sending invoices, keeping A/R current, disseminating W-2’s
  • Assuming responsibility for current processes including timesheet collection, invoicing, payroll, and internal team coordination
  • Maintaining state and local tax and UI registrations, filings, reporting, and documentation
  • Liaising with CPA for tax filings, audits, and year-end reporting
  • Managing sales forecast, commission reporting, and expense reimbursement
  • Managing insurance policies and audits including General Liability, Workers Comp, and Anthem Health
  • Complying with county licensing requirements
  • Reviewing existing onboarding process from offer letter to PTO/benefits administration, background check/drug testing, and introducing technology and process improvements
  • Providing support to RFP/Proposal
  • Reviewing existing client, vendor, and partner agreements and acting as a point of contact to negotiate and execute new agreements. Updating outdated contracts and creating a centralized portal for retrieval

  • You have 2+ years of experience running the payroll/operation of a small business
  • You regularly work with QuickBooks and ADP
  • You are tech-savvy and are always looking for ways to improve processes and communication with technology
  • You are local to the D.C. area for occasional in-person meetings (preferred)
  • You have a natural aptitude and affection for numbers, math, spreadsheets, and the ability to spot patterns
  • You get praised for your attention to detail, responsiveness, and versatility, and you have impeccable references
  • You enjoy bookkeeping and running a small business operation but are hungry to take on meaty projects and continue growing/developing
  • You have a bachelor’s degree or are in pursuit of one in business, accounting, or a related field (preferred)
